Overview of features:

For more information about features, here’s a detailed review by Justin, a beta tester, complete with screenshots and examples. See also these frequently asked questions.

Below are the improvements and features in version 3:

  • Smoother handwriting. Better inking. Just a better handwriting experience overall. I put the below screenshots in hi-def so that you can see the inking:

  • No more database! All flat files. Better yet, they are SVGs so you can view (and share) them in any web browser.
  • Full Dropbox syncing. That is, at any time, the dedicated Dropbox folder for Notes Plus (currently predefined as Dropbox/NotesPlus/Sync) mirrors exactly the file contents of the app.
  • PDF import (including an “Open in” option within other PDF apps) and annotation.

PDF Open-in Notes Plus

  • Image support.
  • Better typed text handling with full-page text canvas. Tap on text mode and start typing without worrying about textbox size or location (textboxes are still supported).

Text Edit Mode

  • Better close-up writing experience with more control and space, yet retaining the best feature of auto-advance in the current Notes Plus.

Close-up box

  • We will have the side navigation popover like before, no shelf (I found this too disruptive).

Navigation Panel

  • Handwriting Recognition

I am using the most recent Notes Plus app available on the AppStore. I am having problems with the auto advance in the close-up writing. I will start writing and the box will automatically move down after only making one pen stroke on the page. I have had to turn off the auto advance so I can use the app.

      Hi Sherman,

Did you just get v4.3.3? I can reproduce the bug you described here. Have you tried restarting your iPad and/or the app?

I like Evernote because it works on my iphone, iPad and laptop keeping everything in sync. I started to dislike Evernote because it doesn't offer the features you have and they also want to charge a ridiculous monthly fee. They have also started to decontent the app for non paying users. It gets uglier by the week. I love notes plus but I cannot use it with my iphone and cannot utilize the laptop. Your app is wonderful but missing these great syncing features. I would pay more for these features. Can they be added?

      Hi Bob,

Thanks for your kind support. As regards syncing with Evernote, I'm afraid it's not possible, because of rate limits imposed by Evernote: http://blog.evernote.com/tech/2013/08/13/evernote-api-rate-limits/. If we are to do this, we'll need to talk with Evernote. We'll see if that will be possible.

I need an app for both handwriting and typing in and I heard lots of good things about Notes Plus. (Most best 10 iOS apps type of lists don't mention Notes Plus though) EverNote is my repository of all non-actionable items, and I'm wondering whether Noted Plus can export to EverNote directly.

      Hi Ki,

Thanks for your interest in our app. Notes Plus can export directly to Evernote. I'm happy to answer more questions you might have.

I was excited for this feature but it is not functioning. I use Evernote as my primary storage location and purchased Notes Plus to take hand written notes in business meetings with the intention of exporting to Evernote. Can you please touch base through email to help trouble shoot this. Thank you.

          Hi Rob,

To export notes to Evernote, please tap Tools (top-right wrench icon) > Export > Destination > Add a cloud account... > Evernote. Then log in to your Evernote account in the authorization screen and then go back to the Export popover and tap Export. Did you do this? At what step did it fail?

    Hi Toan,
could you help me: I would like to insert - not an entire page but 1/3 page as I forgot to write something.
I cannot select the whole lower part and move it down as this is too long... (and selection over a screen is also difficult).
You have any solution for me?
    Thanks, Austin

      Hi Austin,

I'm afraid there isn't another way. You'll still need to move the handwriting down and insert more just above it. As you might imagine, this would be a handy feature and also a complex one to implement too. We'll see if it will be possible in the future.

        Hi Toan,

This actually would be a great great feature. It happens quite frequently that I need to reorganize my notes, shift them down, insert something in the middle of existing note or delete some parts of the existing note and remove the gap. MyScript Mobile Notes (app) offers a primitive feature for doing so (the shifting feature), which in my opinion, doesn't seem to be too hard to implement. However, you know the design of your program best :)

          Hi Salman,

I've just checked out MyScript Mobile Notes and its split/join gestures are pretty nice. We'll consider it for a future version. I've told the team. Thanks.

    One comment, one suggestion:

I used two iPads. They are both auto synced to my dropbox folder. However, recent notes are not shared properly between the two iPads. It seems that I have to force (using the synchronized icon in the left hand toolbar) a synchronize in order to get them to line up and it does not occur automatically. How do I fix this?

The second issue is a suggestion. With Evernote now linked to Penultimate, users get immediate synchronization and editing on all platforms, both portable and desktop, iOS 7 and OS X. While there are many advantages to Notes Plus, this makes Evernote a formidable challenger. I would suggest that you build a small OS X application that allows users to view and edit their notes on a OS X platform.

      Hi Nat,

Admittedly there's lots of room for improvement in our backup sync. The biggest limitation is if you make changes to a notebook common to 2 devices, the changes won't be pushed to the other device until you delete the outdated notebook so the newer version will be downloaded from Dropbox. Since this is a major feature, it will take time to improve it.

We'll also think about your suggestion. Thanks for the idea!

I agree, the ability to access these notes on the computer to study and view would make this app superior!

How about ability to export to MS OneNote?

This will allow ability to use notes from NotePlus to all platforms supported by OneNote

            Hi Azza,

I'm afraid that isn't available yet, but we've got that same request from many other users and we'll try our best to support OneNote.
