    To the devs,

You told us a while ago that the update will be submitted. The app is still full of bugs. Many of the functions don’t work as intended. The app crashes and is slow. Please don’t tell the users that an update is coming soon when nothing is actually being done. This just makes the app poor.

      Hi Justine,

Sorry about the delay. We don’t tell users about something we’re not working on. The delay has been due to last-minute problems. We’re testing the update for showstoppers and if there are none, it’ll go to Apple this Friday.

    Hi,

Thanks for a wonderful app! I use this for work and am trying to go paperless. It’s almost there, but there’s a couple of things that I hope can be improved:

    1) When converting HW to text, it seems if I have a lot of HW, the product text is a huge box even though the text becomes only a few lines. And within this box, the bottom few rows of text is sometimes hidden and require that I change the size of the box in order to see the text. This is inconvenient and sometimes not possible if the text box extends beyond the bottom of the page… I often need to do this because I find the conversion to be very inaccurate when I need to convert lots of text at once. So I do it piecemeal and the text boxes often end up overlapping.

    2) I accidentally added a conversion language that I didn’t need. Is there a way to remove it? With the extra language in the menu, I sometime choose it by accident.

    3) I take notes in both Chinese and English. Can you add a feature where I can either use 1 text conversion method to convert both languages or have a toggle feature to easily switch?

    4) How come when I edit the pen style and shortcuts on the top menu, they reset when I shut down the app and reopen?

    5) When inserting pictures that are taken with the iPad camera, is there a way to crop or edit the photo. I find that I end up spending way too much time positioning my iPad for a perfect picture rather than taking my notes timely.

Other than these feature wishes, I’m finding this app very easy to use and am the envy of many of my coworkers! Thanks and keep up the good work!

Oh, and a couple more things, also HW conversion issue:

      6) When HW is converted to text and then switched back to show HW, is it possible to make that editable? I’m finding that some words are difficult to convert right the first time. Would be great if I could make adjustments and convert again.

      7) Possibly related, is it possible to add word to the conversion dictionary? I use a lot of industry terms that require me to edit the text after conversion… every time…

      Thanks,
      Jerry

        Hi Jerry,

        6. The original handwriting isn’t editable. This is a bug. You can edit the converted text directly by switching to ABC mode and tapping on it.
        7. I believe it’s possible (because MyScript Memo has it) but the feature isn’t implemented in Notes Plus yet. Let us dig deeper into the SDK and see what we can find out.

      Hi Jerry,

      Thanks for your kind words.

      1. It’s a limitation that spillover text isn’t wrapped to the next page or resized automatically. We’ll improve this behavior in a future update.
      2. Unfortunately there isn’t a way to remove a downloaded language. Don’t worry, it shouldn’t consume resources while it’s not being used.
      3. This is a good idea. We’ll see what we can do.
      4. This is a bug. We’ll fix it.
      5. We’ll add a Crop function for sure. Please stay tuned.

I seriously love this app, and use it every day at work for notetaking. The ability to add a photo to a notebook is a fantastic idea – I use it for taking pictures of white boards when a meeting is over. However, once you add a photo, the notebook becomes completely unusable. It is so slow, I feel like I’m using a Windows computer! ;) PLEASE do something to fix this soon!!

At present when I am at meetings, I find myself desperately going to find new notebooks amongst different folders. Please consider the following recommendation.

In GoodReader the most recently accessed files are listed by their file names in tabs at the top of the screen.

Could you also provide that same feature, with titles of notebooks recently accessed displayed at the top. One way I would use it is to access the notebooks I expect to refer to prior to the meeting start, so that I can switch between 6-8 notebooks very fast during a meeting.

    Hi!

Very, very nice app but I have a lot of problems or feature requests:

.) If I change the left margin in the page settings to 0 (so i dont have the red line any more) the app crached and didn’t store the changes.

.) Is it possible to end the lines at the margin points – so that the Line stops before the paper ends – like it is in Notability

.) Is it possible to change the standard page settings so the are stored for every new notebook (I like other margin and a bigger line height)

.) A litte more zoom in the handwriting mode would be fine (like in Notablility too)

.) Automatic switch to the next page when i scroll down with two fingers

.) Evernote Support!!!! With picture export so I can use the text search function for handwriting

.) More papers and Covers to choose

This aren’t big things – i love your app anyway :-)

      Hi Wolfgang,

Thanks for the praise. Let me address each point:

      1. Left-margin crash: I coudn’t reproduce this. Did I miss some important steps?
      2. Trying dragging the right margin on the page (red line near the right edge) in closeup mode. This determines where the closeup box should carriage-return as you write.
      3. Sorry there aren’t app-wide page settings yet.
      4. To change the zoom scale in the closeup view, tap the button in its upper left corner, then flick down at the wheel on the right border. Tap the checkmark button in the upper left corner to commit your change.
      5. Switching to the next page with 2 fingers: this has been implemented in v3.0.4. We’re submitting it soon.
      6. Evernote: we’ll support it in a future update.
      7. v3.0.4 also has more papers and covers.

Hi and thx for your quick reply – see mine below:

        1. now it works – strange… / some kind of cloud repair function? :-)

        2. thx but I know that. My question is if its possible for you to range the template or give a functionality for a line paper where the lines ends (in your app) at the red margin lines – and not go to the left and right end of the page and you can only use the margin for the automatic closeup breaks.

        3. this was my importantst point :-( – perhaps I can go with the new papers in 3.0.4, but I think this will be an interesting feature for other users too

        4. thx i know – but if its not a lot of work for you it will be fine perhaps if users can zoom more than now

        5. perfect

        6. perfect

        7. perfect

        Thanks sooo much!!!

      Hi Luci,

By “gost” (ghost?), do you mean the small gray area in the closeup view? If so, my guess is the “Right-to-left writing in closeup box” has been somehow turned on. Can you go to App Settings (accessed via the gear icon on the bottom left corner) and turn off this option? Then try writing in closeup mode again and let me know. If the problem persists, please send me a screenshot. To take a screenshot, press the Lock and Home buttons on your iPad simultaneously and email it to me from Photos.

          Hi Juzar,

Are you talking about a continuous scrolling mode like in the native Notes app? If so, we tried doing that without much success in terms of performance so we’ve decided we’ll implement a new gesture-based page-turning method. We’re still working on it and hopefully it will be much more efficient than the old method.

      Hi Paco,

Your palm is probably being misunderstood as a four-finger swipe, thus activating iOS Multitasking Gestures. Apple doesn’t allow changing this setting (or any other setting) by code, so you’ll need to turn it off manually in iPad Settings > General > Multitasking Gestures.

Toan in my case it was not that problem( multitasking gestures) but I found out that if you have the accessibility double tap with 3 fingers zoom on, the palm pad won’t work properly, I just turned it off and began to work just normal. I just wanted to let you know it can help you in the future with related problems. Great app thanks!

    Hi there,

    I have comments and questions.

Let me begin by saying I sort of love your app and I switched all my notes taking for classes onto it, meaning I convert the powerpoints into pdfs and then take notes on them. I now have about 22 in my app, and it won’t let me do anything anymore, other than open the pdf. If I try to take notes with stylus or text, it crashes. Every time. Any ideas what I could do? And even if I only open it, the app seems to constantly reload the document, which is annoying and disrupting. That has really become a problem.

Also, I have a question about the text window. I seem to be unable to pick where the text window goes, or select it later to add or change the text.

Other than that it is really a great app and worth the money. Thanks. Can’t wait for the update and bug squashing coming with it :-)

Thanks for loving the app. Can you reliably reproduce the crashes? What iPad generation are you on? We’re aware the app can crash on iPad 1 due to its limited memory and we’re optimizing this in each future update. Sorry about the inconvenience.

To edit a textbox, switch to Pen tool and tap on it, then the Lock that appears. Next, tap on the textbox to begin editing. Does this answer your question?

After two weeks of loving this app I have my wish list. Sorry, i cant remember what i already asked for so you may notice ive repeated myself .

Select and bold? Select and color. Choose default tool and have it stay. Have highlighter stay the last chosen color. Deleting all the text leaves a “T”. At present you have to put in a space to avoid that. I no longer need a way to go from page 2 to page 50 instantly because I see how you have done that. Nice job… With thumbnails no less. Excellent. I don’t remember seeing that in a video. Page flipping with a flick would be nice though. Putting photos on the page reeeeely slows the app down. “send to back” seems to only work if you don’t mess with the photo. Otherwise it jumps to the front again. Can’t seem to erase stuff that I made yesterday.

Anyway, I’m having a blast as it is. Thanks for the effort. This thing rocks!

      Hi Kelly,

Thanks for the praise. Let me go over each point.

      - Select and bold? Select and color?
What do you mean by this? Do you mean the ability to format some words but not the whole text? If so, we’ll implement this in a future update.
      - Choose default tool and have it stay: are you referring to this bug: http://notesplusapp.com/ticket/169 ?
      - Deleting all the text leaves a “T”: are you talking about this bug: http://notesplusapp.com/ticket/452 ? It has been fixed in our internal build v3.0.4.
      - You can jump to a page by tapping on the page field (something like “< 1/10 >“) and enter the page number.
      - Page flipping with a flick: it will be in v3.0.4.
      - Photos on the page reeeeely slows the app down: this has been fixed for the new iPad in v3.0.4.
      - By design, if you select an object, it will be topmost (just like selecting a window in your computer).

I think the developers have also adjusted the sensitivity of the Touch for Close-up mode. That should help reduce accidental Close-Up mode changes, in the next NP release.
I’m looking forward to having a dedicated Button option in a later version too.

so i was in my accounting class again yesterday and my professor was blazing through power point presentation. Using my iPad 3 and adonit jot stylus, i was trying to keep up with the note taking. had the iPad on the desk, right hand with the stylus and i was taking notes. there were instances when i had to switch in color, highlight, write notes, type notes, insert graphs using the stylus. so i realized.. why can’t i use my left hand to do this? why can’t this features be on the left side of the app instead of the top part? why do i have to stop writing to click on a new ink color and then load-up the zoom to continue where i stopped writing? sure i can just use my left hand and click on top but then i’ll be covering my view of the screen?

perhaps for future update, you could move the menu icons from the top to the left side so you can simultaneously do all these . a continuous , and efficient flow for power users of this app in real-life, fast phase note taking situation? what you guys think?

      Hi Heather,

You can annotate PDFs by importing them to Notes Plus. There are three ways:

      1. Use File Sharing (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4094) and add your PDFs to Notes Plus Documents. Close and re-open Notes Plus and they will appear in the root folder. Tap on a PDF to start annotating it. This is the most reliable method.
      2. Long-press a PDF attachment in an email message and choose “Open In Notes Plus”
      3. Load a PDF in another app (Safari / Dropbox / etc.), then “Open In Notes Plus”

Suggested new feature for on-line backup: due to DropBox policy which shows some lack of confidentiality in the stored data, could you please evaluate the integration of more secure services like Wuala, which store device-encrypted data in the Cloud?

    Hi,
Have you thought about extending the margin? Currently, the readable area is limited by the margin and make the handwriting and reading uncomfortable. I knew I could have switched to fullscreen mode, but I cannot switch pens/highlighters/text mode in fullscreen mode. It’s quite troublesome.
    Suggestion:
Maybe you can remove the marginal area? I don’t see that area helpful to me. I think that area is only a decoration?

Remark: I’m talking about the gray/black, opague area in the right, bottom and left of the pages.

    And one more thing,
When I’m reading a PDF file with many pages in the web browser, I cannot jump to a certain page. It took me a long time to scroll down to a certain page. Maybe you can fix it?

    Thanks,
    Marco

      Hi Marco,

We’ll revise the UI in v3.1 and perhaps will gain some more space for the note-taking area. Currently the bevels you mentioned are for panning the page and, in the upcoming v3.0.4, for switching pages too. We’ll also have “Jump to page” in the browser panel. Sorry about the inconvenience.

I’m not sure if anyone had given this feedback but when you copy something to the clipboard, it seem like the animation is useless and troublesome . Here what I mean: I’m in college and for my economics class, we draw a lot of graphs. When the graphs get complicated , i have to copy and paste graphs I have drawn. When the prof spit out lecture like there’s no tomorrow, I always find myself having to wait for the paste animation to finish and go to the tools icon to drag and paste. Before I know it, I’m completely behind and missed important lecture.

Do you guys think that maybe the copy to clipboard can happen in the background? Like if I copy something, I think it will be best to be able to paste right away. The way apple’s copy /paste works.

What iPad generation are you using? Does this occur with any notebook? Have you tried exporting small notebooks? I suspect the notebook you were exporting was too large while iPad memory was too limited. Are you using Dropbox autobackup and restore? If so, try turning off the option and exporting the notebook again.

I used to use NotesPlus and left during the long wait for version 3 and the stability issues. I’m back and I’m very pleased but have some issues/suggestions. I’m on an iPad 2.

    Issues –
1 – Going to the next page within a notebook takes 1.5 – 2 seconds for the page to turn. That is a very long time.
2 – The red margins are too easy to move. A few times a day, I grab them by mistake. In particular if I’m making a right-side of the page list. I would like the option to freeze them as is.
3 – It is very hard to open the left vertical bar to see the notebooks. The instructions say to touch on the upper left. This only works about half the time. Sometimes it takes a few seconds to open so I find I’ve given up and it opens. Lately, I have to grab the bar in the center, draw it out, then click on the notebooks icon. Very irritating.

    Suggestions –
1 – Please make the highlighting font wider – the largest font size for writing I use for highlighting. It often doesn’t highlight my whole line and I have to do it twice which makes the color uneven.
2 – I would like to be able to scroll to change pages. The current click method is cumbersome.

    Thanks, Theresa

      Hi Theresa,

Thanks for valuable feedback like this. Issues 1 and 3 are due to our inefficient code. We’re trying hard to improve the performance in each subsequent update. Regarding issue 2, are you talking about the red margins that appear on the page when you’re in closeup mode? As I see it, it’s not at all easy to change them by accident. I’ll need to drag on them precisely to move them, so I’m not sure how it’s easy for you. Am I missing something? If possible, could you make a video of this?

About your first suggestion, we’ll consider implementing a separate highlighter with a wider stroke. Suggestion 2 has been implemented in v3.0.4 (to some extent). It’ll be submitted to Apple very soon.

When will VGA out be added to Notes Plus?

This is something you’ve promised to add for quite some time. It is essential to any educator using Notes Plus to display notes via an overhead projector WITHOUT the user interface showing. VGA out is the only method to do this. A goodly number of other note taking apps have this feature: Note Taker HD, Goodnotes, Upad, Noteshelf, Penultimate, to name a few.

Help! Adding pictures to a page creates an incredible lag.

When I add pictures (inserting even takes at least a minute) to a page in notesplus, even if it’s only one, it slows everything down on the page and sometimes even the whole notebook. When moving the pictures it takes a very long time for the picture to catch up with the movement and then when I start writing on the page the page constantly flashes and the writing has lag to catch up to it’s self making it quite difficult to correct mistakes or just see where you are up to.

I am running an ipad 3, only have the notesplus app open and have made sure the trash is empty. I have even restarted the ipad to see if that helps and no luck.

Is this a known fault? Is there plans to change it in the near future?

Notes Plus is designed mainly for taking notes/recording,… with a various set of features, Notes Plus has been using by many students for their class. I’m sure it will fit with your needs.

We offer several ways to transfer your notes to your computer, you can use Dropbox to sync entire notes to your computer wirelessly. Alternative, you can use iTunes File Sharing to transfer your notes onto Macbook.

Take a look at our Version 3 page (http://notesplusapp.com/versions/version-3) for more information, screenshot, discussions, etc…

    Hi Toan,
I have been touring around the net defending Notes + against some pretty poor reviews, most of which are due to the fact that the reviewer had no idea how to operate the app, much less report on it (see App Advice review). They reported that the screen flickers on the new iPad 3 and I’ve NEVER had that problem with my finger, with the Adonit Jot or the BoxWave stylus. So keep up the good work! I’m looking forward to this app getting better and better as it does with each release!

      Hi Korky,

Thanks for defending Notes Plus, :) . I’m interested in knowing how you don’t have the issue on the new iPad. Could you tell me your page settings? My guess is the flickering has to do with paper backgrounds or something. Can you change the background to yellow lined paper and see if this issue occurs?

        Hi Toan,

Yes, indeed there is a problem with the yellow paper. What I found out was that if you are just writing, everything seems fine. But once you stop, lift the pen (stylus) and put it back down, there is a screen refresh or something. But then once your start writing again, there’s not a flicker. I tried this same exercise on the graph papers, and it wasn’t a problem…nor with the plain white paper.

So at least with my little experimentation, it did a quick flicker on the yellow page, but not on the graph papers or the white paper.

          Thanks Korky,

That’s due to the app updates the background layers whenever the foreground layer update. This isn’t not happening on iPad 1 and iPad 2. However, it’s a bug where the programming ultility that Apple provided doesn’t work as it’s documented to work. Some other drawing apps also got this issue with the new iPad.

We’ll try to find a workaround if Apple doesn’t have updates for this.

            Hi Duy,

That’s interesting, because Notability does not exhibit this anomaly on my iPad 3 when I switch to a colored background paper. Neither does Noteshelf. Note Taker HD does not allow for colored paper that I can see. Of course I understand that there are different ways of programming the app, too.

Hopefully you can find a solution soon.

            Hi Korky,

It’s true those other apps don’t have this kind of anomaly but the thing is they’re using different technologies from Notes Plus (we use layers – they don’t). As Duy has alluded to, Apple documentation isn’t consistent and we’re trying our best to provide a temporary fix while waiting for them to correct their own bug.

        Hi Toan,

I recently (last weekend) upgraded my IPAD2 to 5.1. Since then I have experienced the flickering or wobbling when I use the close up writing window. As I start writing with my Jotpro stylus the app starts to miss penstrokes on the page then the whole screen seems to wobble to the penstrokes instead. I’ve even tried to write more slowly but eventually this ‘wobbling’ starts again. I have had to suspend using the app until this is rectified.

What seems to overcome this is to ensure that the palm of my writing hand does not lean on the bottom of the screen below the close up window where it would rest in the normal writing position. However the ‘floating’ hand becomes fatigued eventually.

Been extremely happy with Notes Plus nontheless. Hope you can help soon.

          Hi Terence,

The wobbling might be because your palm is probably being misunderstood as a four-finger swipe, thus activating iOS Multitasking Gestures. Apple doesn’t allow changing this setting (or any other setting) by code, so you’ll need to turn it off manually in iPad Settings > General > Multitasking Gestures. Please do that and let me know if the above issues stop occurring.

Hi Toan, I’ve seen this happen to me before, in version 3.0.3.

I remember that the circumstances were that the page contained a lot of text in Typing mode (T tool) and because text wrap is not supported yet, text was overflowing below the page. And then, when I tried to cut off the last part of the text to paste it onto the next page, the Cut/Copy/… pop-up really did not want to show itself.

The most annoying thing was that when I entered Typing mode, the typing cursor would immediately prompt me to the very bottom of my text and then I couldn’t even see what was written at the top of the page (since there was too much text to start with). I tried bringing up the magnification glass and slide back to the top, but it barely worked at all… It was definitely FRUSTRATING. Can’t wait for text wrap along with all those planned UI changes to show themselves in a future build!!

Kim, to add to Toan’s response: You can place text *anywhere* on a page using the ABC tool. All you have to do is select the ABC tool and tap the exacy point where you want the text to appear. It’s actually better than the Notability implementation which requires you to tap on a line, then use the TAB tool ( —> ) to position the horizontal text coordinate. Once you do this with Notability, you can only reposition text by adding/deleting lines and tabs. To move the text with Notesplus, all you do is circle it or tap it to select, then drag the text to the new location. You can even overlap your text with other text objects with Notesplus — which you cannot do with Notability. Check out the tutorial — there’s lots of cool, intuitive stuff you can do with Notesplus!

It would be very helpful to be able, under App Settings, to specify the height of the circle for the selection gesture. The minimum height appears to be between 1 to 1 1/2 lines (based on the Lined White paper). This makes it impossible to select a line of text written between two other lines. I would like to be able to set the selection height to less than 1 line so that I can select a single line of text written between adjacent lines.

A small selection height will make the selection circle difficult to distinguish from the deletion gesture, I keep the deletion gesture turned off since I like the selection capability, You might consider automatically turning off the deletion gesture if the selection height is below a certain value, or allowing the user to specify which takes precedence.

I have been using the product for the last couple of weeks for my law practice and think it is great. I have created several case specific notebooks and folders to keep notes for each subject matter together, but also have a notebook that I leave open as a default. Whenever I get a phone call or meeting I use an empty page of the default notebook for that meeting or call, but then I have to transfer that page to the notebook I set up specifically for that case or issue (sometimes I don’t know which case the call or meeting is going to cover and sometimes in a meeting, we cover more than one case). Is there a way to move the page to the appropriate notebook without having to open up the notebooks tab? (It would be great if it were in the tools menu).

Also, it would be helpful to be able to enter the title of the page when the page is open (similar to entering a title to the notebook when the notebook is open), and not have to do it through the edit menu in the main notebooks tab.

Finally, is there a way to search all my notebooks at once? It looks like I can only search in one notebook at a time.

    Thanks!

      Hi John,

Thanks for the detailed use case.
      - Unfortunately, there isn’t a quick way to move a page to another notebook. We’ll consider putting in under the Tools menu as you suggest.
      - To change the current page title, just swipe left near the navigation field (the one that looks like “< 1/2 >“) to get an expanded field. Tap on it to enter a new page title.
      - To search all your notebooks, please navigate to the root folder and search there.

Can I import a video or audio file and take notes while playing the file?

      Hi ca01ei,

Do you mean inserting a video or audio file as an “embedded” icon onto the page? If so, I’m afraid that isn’t possible. If you just need to view a web video/audio as a reference while taking notes, you can open the page with that video/audio in the browser panel and take notes in the paper panel. I hope this works for you.

Hi, i was wondering when you guys will come up with an update for the new iPad? It’s really a nice app but then the graphics don’t look really great with the new retina display, and it is quite slow and hard to use when willing to switch pages. Also I noticed that whenever I am listening to music and open the app, the music stops for a second and then starts again with a lower volume. There are also these weird flashes in the page when u are scrolling down or switching pages which doesnt really feel smooth… Will be happy if you guys could address this problems:) and a total full screen will also be lovely :) and a nice bookshelf for the books too will be super awesome:p hope not dreaming too much:) but well, really great Job guys! It’s quite a handy app:)

      Hi Arnold,

Sorry about the issues on the new iPad. We’ll update the graphics and add other enhancements for the new iPad soon. About the slow page-switching, we’re working on a more efficient method, maybe iBooks- or Photos- style. As regards the music issue, I notice there’s a brief hiccup as I launch Notes Plus while the music is playing but the volume doesn’t decrease. The flashing issue is also known and we’re trying our best to resolve it. To go full-screen, just tap the icon right below the Undo button in the top-right corner.

Please stay tuned for all these improvements for the new iPad. And keep giving us feedback like this. Thanks.

    Hi Toan,

Is it possible to import our own paper background?

    Thanks,
    Joey

      Hi Joey,

While you can’t really do that from within the app, you can try the following workaround: (1) Import a PDF paper template as a one-page notebook; (2) Make as many copies of the page as needed for your notebook; (3) Annotate on these pages.

In case you need paper templates in PDF, try these two sites: http://www.printablepaper.net/ and http://incompetech.com/graphpaper/.

        Hi Toan,

Thank you for the quick reply … and the links.

Unfortunately, importing a PDF file will not work for what I am trying to do. I have the need to change the paper based on the progress of a task. I need paper backgrounds with a watermark suck as “Complete”, “Rejected”, etc. Sort of like stamping pages so I can tell by looking at the previews what still needs to be addressed.

I am sure Viet has this on his long list of features. I was pretty sure I had looked in all the nooks and crannies for the ability to import new paper.

        Thanks,
        Joey

          Hi Joey,

Adding watermarks is a nice idea. I too hope Viet will consider it. We’ll see.

Have you considered typing “REJECTED” or “COMPLETE” in a Text Box and then you can copy each in turn to the clipboard. From here you can then paste, send to back and lock to annotate your pages like a watermark. A work around I know but might help you achieve what your after.

            Hi Jon,

A very nice workaround indeed, especially textboxes can be rotated! Thanks for suggesting it. The only trouble is the limited font size. I tried setting the largest font size and it’s still very small for a watermark. Great workaround, regardless. Thanks.
