Version 3

Overview of features:

For more information about features, here’s a detailed review by Justin, a beta tester, complete with screenshots and examples. See also these frequently asked questions.

Below are the improvements and features in version 3:

  • Smoother handwriting. Better inking. Just a better handwriting experience overall. I put the below screenshots in hi-def so that you can see the inking:

  • No more database! All flat files. Better yet, they are SVGs so you can view (and share) them in any web browser.
  • Full Dropbox syncing. That is, at any time, the dedicated Dropbox folder for Notes Plus (currently predefined as Dropbox/NotesPlus/Sync) mirrors exactly the file contents of the app.
  • PDF import (including an “Open in” option within other PDF apps) and annotation.

PDF Open-in Notes Plus

  • Image support.
  • Better typed text handling with full-page text canvas. Tap on text mode and start typing without worrying about textbox size or location (textboxes are still supported).

Text Edit Mode

  • Better close-up writing experience with more control and space, yet retaining the best feature of auto-advance in the current Notes Plus.

Close-up box

  • We will have the side navigation popover like before, no shelf (I found this too disruptive).

Navigation Panel

  • Handwriting Recognition

    Hi,

I just want to thank you for the work you’ve done with Notes Plus. I also have a little question. Is it possible to permanently delete the .caf files from the iPad files after they’re exported to iTunes? If yes, how? Even though I already saved them into my computer and deleted the original recording on Notes Plus, I always keep on seeing those files in my Notes Plus when I connect my iPad to the computer.

    Thank you.

      Hi Laura,

Thanks for using the app. I guess you’re linked to Dropbox and Dropbox re-downloads the files every time you delete them in Notes Plus. If you want to delete all the .caf files, please look in Notes Plus Documents via iTunes File Sharing (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4094) for a folder named Recordings. Select it and hit “Delete” on your computer keyboard.

        Hi Toan,

Just wanted to let you know that without Dropbox being linked (like in my case), the files are still constantly present in iTunes even after saving them to the computer as well as deleting them in the Notes Plus app. However, I never thought about pressing the “delete” key on the keyboard to get rid of the files in iTunes File Sharing! I will surely do that now thanks to you! :D

I’m not linked to Dropbox either, but pressing the “Delete” button worked~ Thank you sooooo much!

Hey guys! Love the app. Can’t wait as you continue to improve the interface.

In my search for note apps, I found one called iNoteBook, it’s nice, not near as capable as yours. However it has two features I really like. Tags, which I know you said you were implementing. But also a calendar that lets me see my notes on the days I took them, and different books for each meeting or session I have. The file system then allows me search by date, tag, etc… Also allows you to views PDFs on dates (such as briefing notes on certain days)

    Just a thought.
    Keep up the good work

      Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the kind words and the pointer to iNotebook (I believe the name has been changed to iNotebox). I’ll take a closer look at the app to see what we can learn from it, especially tagging.
